Additional Information:
Military grade Airsoft. Train and play with former IDF soldier and Marine Corps officer. Kosher environment. Now in our 10th year!
By the way...why the change?
So for those that don't already know, we are still active in NY and NJ, but Shomer360 HQ has moved down to South Florida. I immediately started checking out the paintball fields here and sadly realized that the quality of the fields as well as the ridiculous Florida heat are a serious safety issue. So I pivoted to airsoft. Airsoft guns and rifles shoot plastic pellets that have about the same sting as paint balls but are very close to the exact dimensions of the firearms they are modeled after. This makes for more realistic training where I can show the players the exact shooting stance as well as incorporate disarm training into the equation.
Now, the training facility I found most suitable is in a 25,000 ft warehouse that is shielded from the sun and uses huge fans to cool down the fields. It has scenario locations such as streets, banks, an old block buster video store and many others. It reminds me of the famous Hogan's Alley in the FBI academy in Quantico, Virginia. I trained there while going through the USMC Basic School.
From a tactical training perspective, it is far superior in teaching MOUT (Military Operations in Urbanized Terrain) than any of the paintball fields we trained on. In fact law enforcement SWAT teams use the facility for their training as well. I am considering using the facility for my NRA and self defense courses in the future (more on that at a later time).
We will still use our force on force protocols of dividing teams into platoon, squad and fire team elements (as usual, please let me know if you want to play a leadership position) just now we will switch from conventional tactics to MOUT tactics. You guys have no idea how excited I am!
A word about the change in venue.
So I know that Miami is far from our previous locations, but there are benefits:
Airsoft with the Captain
Why it’s the best thing you can do this Yeshiva Break

The Yeshiva Break Dilemma
What happens when high energy teens have free time on their hands and nothing to do? Prepare for damage control.
When do fathers ever have time to bond with their sons in a unique environment? Hardly ever. And they grow up so fast.
Where can single guys finally let loose? On the airsoft field of glory! That’s where.
As Jews we live a life of purpose but it’s also about making memories with friends and family. Airsoft is a tough, intense and bonding experience. And when it’s done with Captain Even-Esh of Shomer360, it’s even better.
Why Airsoft?
Airsoft is a war game played out by two opposing teams, where each team works together to outsmart and out maneuver the other side. The equipment consists of safety goggles, simulation rifles and of course airsoft pellets. Airsoft pellets are plastic bb’s that sting about as much as paintballs when they hit. In the facility where the games will take place, the games are organized in quadrants that have a theme (for example; Bank, Living Room, Block Buster Video etc.) and often have props to add to the realism such as aircraft, cars, motorcycles and structures that simulate urban terrain.
Why it’s Awesome.
Sooooo many reasons. Here’s just a few. You are with family and friends making memories, strategizing, running and working together. When you tag a member of the opposing side it is satisfying on a level that you won’t understand until you experience it. It’s rough and tumble and builds resilience. The boys can finally be boys!
Some moments I loved that stick out in my mind from previous years playing paintball but still applicable to airsoft: seeing brothers who were separated all year learning in distant yeshivas be the last ones standing on the field -- victorious. Laughing myself silly when an attorney shot his financial advisor who played on the other team. And perhaps my favorite moment was when a student of mine came to play with his father and after witnessing his dad execute a particularly intelligent move on the field, tell me, “I never knew my dad was so awesome.”
Well What About the Boys Who Don't Do So Well?
The ones that get tagged more than they tag the other team? A famous line of one of my favorite poems, titled IF by Rudyard Kipling is, “If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two imposters just the same.” (full poem is below)
Here’s the good news. If you get tagged by an AirSoft pellet, you walk off the field until the next game or go to the respawn area and get back to work. There is no loss, not in the real sense. It’s a learning experience. Next time you’ll cover and move better, communicate better, coordinate the movement of your fire-team, squad or platoon better. AirSoft teaches the very adult art of the “bounce back.” We don’t give up on the AirSoft field just as we don’t give up in real life.
Why AirSoft with the Captain is Even Better
Captain Even-Esh is an IDF combat vet and a prior service Captain in the United States Marine Corps. He has participated in and run live-fire training exercises in the military and has run paintball trips during Chol HaMoed and Yeshiva Break for the past ten years. His games run like clockwork. You play more and waste less ammo. The games have direction. You are working together towards a strategic goal. It practically eliminates the dreaded situation of one guy hiding in the bushes and pew, pew, pew until he’s out of ammo. Ultimately, playing with the Captain is more bang for the buck.
Achdut
Achdut is another big factor. Go to the AirSoft field by yourself and who are you playing with? With the Captain, every game you will meet people from other communities and yeshivas, make some new friends and look forward to playing with (or against) them on the next Yeshiva Break or Chol HaMoed.
Leadership
Of course, one of the biggest differentiating factors is the real leadership training for the players designated as leaders and even the players who play the basic rifleman. We learn the importance of communication, decentralized command, delegation and oversight. On an individual level, we use real military tactics. To name just a few of those tactics; cover and move, flanking, enveloping and concentration of force are brought to light using the Captain’s experience. We do a quick debrief after every game to learn from the experience.
Doesn’t it hurt?
Dude…no.
If you did it with a T-shirt, it would feel like a bee sting. I have heard too many stories of young men on shidduch dates who did things like run away from a bee or in general failed to step up to the plate when they should have been a strong, capable, gentleman. I don’t want these delicate man-childs dating our daughters. And I will do everything I can to put an end to this lack of toughness. One day I’ll write an article about how paintball and AirSoft will help solve the shidduch crises. But for now, my point is…c’mon, develop a little grit.
What about bruising and the halacha surrounding that?
I’m no posek, but I do know that if you want to outsmart the sting and prevent a bruise, then wear two sweat shirts. Problem solved. Running these events for the past ten years, I have found that a person’s chances of getting injured in these games is less than the chances of getting hurt playing basketball. In fact, in our bi-annual games, Chol Hamoed, Sukkot and Pesach, with each game averaging 50-75 players, our most serious injury was a sprained ankle. That happened once and that was the worst of it.
Okay I’m In! How do we do this?
Log into https://squareup.com/store/shomer360-llc and follow the prompts to the AirSoft game. The games take place on Wednesday, April 25th. If you are not a computer person or have more questions, you can call us directly at 917-376-3637 or pay us through Zelle at [email protected].

So I know that Miami is far from our previous locations, but there are benefits:
- It's during Yeshiva Break in the middle of the week so plane tickets are cheaper.
- It's Miami, so the rest of your family have numerous options for fun and entertainment while you play.
- If you are a long time player or long time student, this is next level progression! You need to do this!
- The facilities have a pro-shop and a nice waiting room w/AC and charging cables for electronics.
- While you are here, consider doing a private Krav Maga or shooting lesson with me!
